Protest Demanding Judicial Enquiry into circumstances leading to Dalit student’s suicide at University of Hyderabad has held by the civil society representatives. The protest initially started at Charminar the representatives of Human Welfare Foundation, Centre for peace studies, SC ST BC Muslim Front Association for Protection of Civic Rights
Students Islamic organisation Telangana state, Sunni ulema Board, MPJ, and WPI were present at the occasion. Initially Protest started at Charminar and to mark the Solidarity with the students of HCU team, civil societies representatives reached at HCU and interacted with the students.
Dalit research scholar, Mr Rohith Vemula, committed suicide on 17 January 2016 in University of Hyderabad campus while protesting his own, along with four other Dalit students’, expulsion from the hostel for the past 15 days.
The representative has expressed that the circumstances leading to this extremely tragic incident point to the involvement of high level politicians in the ruling party at the Centre. The influence of powerful people behind ABVP student leaders appeared to have worked behind the expulsion of these Dalit students belonging to Ambedkar Students Association. and its shame full that the casteism and fascism politics into the educational Hub has took the life of Rohit.
The common Demands of the Protesters are
- An independent judicial enquiry commission be constituted immediately to conduct an impartial enquiry into the circumstances leading to the suicide of the Dalit student
- All the powers that be who abused their power for the expulsion of the Dalit students be brought to book
- The other four aggrieved Dalit students be immediately readmitted into the hostel
- A sustainable support system be offered to the family of the victim, which has been dependent on him so far.
- A comprehensive and inclusive policy be framed and put into place to assuage student unrest and anxiety on university campuses leading to suicidal tendencies.
The protesters were raising the slogans on play cards Sack VC and bar the Conspirators , Do Justice to Rohit and compensate the poor family, Stop Discrimination against Dalit and Minorities, Rohit Victim of intolerance.
